For the Girls' Room

I picked these up at a garage sale back in July:Cute, but the style wasn't quite what I wanted for the girls' room.
However, I have achieved the picture in my head!

Newly improved, we have some wall hooks that are cute and functional!
After:

The wall shelf received a few coats of white paint after a good cleaning (I used some Krylon at first, but it didn't cover as well as I'd hoped. The final coat was a simple white by Rustoleum.) The pegs just screwed on, so it was easy to remove them and replace with some brushed nickel knobs from Menards. The bolts were a bit long, but that was remedied using some bolt cutters.
The stars were also going to be white, but I thought the pink was much cuter. (Sweet Pea by Rustoleum. I really like Rustoleum, can you tell?!)

Big Girl

I love her personality.
She spends long stretches of time studying one page of a book or magazine,
then the next thing I know she's pulling magnets off the refrigerator and smiling at her cleverness.
One year olds are so fun.

Here's the official big girl bed, originally owned and used by Aunts H and E. They are a bit too grown up for bunk beds now, so they have been passed on to the niece.

Mommy got to used a big ol' screwdriver to help daddy get the bolts in right, and it was fun! Ava loves her new bed!

Lamp Shade Makeover

Since I tend to jump right into my projects, I forgot to take "before" pictures. But this should give you an idea of what the lamp shade looked like in Ava's original pink themed room.
These flowers were hot glued around the bottom edge of the shade. Cute, but now she has more purple in there, and I wasn't a huge fan of the flowers any more.

I took off as much glue as I could, realizing there was no way to completely remove it.
Then I pulled two different kinds of lace from my stash and glued them in alternate layers to cover the old glue.

I had 4 sections of ribbon that I had decided not to use with another project, so I knotted them, made a few adjustments, and glued the ribbon to cover the top of the lace.

Perfect for a cozy, warm glow. You can see the yellowed glue when the lamp is on, but that's typically for a short time before Ava lays down at night, and then maybe in the morning. It's not a big deal, and it looks perfect in her room.

Since I had all the materials on hand, it was free!
